The latest addition to the C4C Limited catalogue comes courtesy of a pair of critically acclaimed Czech DJ/producers – Slaný’s A-Cray and Olomouc’s Symplex – who have banded together for the blistering two-tracker “Broken” / “We Want It”.
Today a resident DJ for the globally renowned events company Let It Roll, A-Cray has soared into the public eye in recent years. Having previously racked up releases with some of the scene’s biggest labels including neurofunk behemoth Eatbrain Records, A.M.C’s Titan Records and the longstanding Citrus Recordings, it’s high time for his Cause4Concern debut.
Symplex, meanwhile, made his first appearance on the imprint earlier this month with the Confusion-assisted “Resonate”, taken from the Flavours Vol. 1 compilation EP. With a well-documented output via the likes of Viper, Red Light Records and Hoofbeats Music himself, he’s an equally accomplished individual and a perfect musical match for A-Cray.
The first of their two joint offerings, “Broken”, evokes imagery of a distant world from its opening notes, with reverberating leads, burgeoning synth motifs and tense vocal hooks serving as an enticing precursor to the bruising crescendos that follow, with its urgency only heightened by the introduction of additional basslines and alternative rhythms as the song progresses. On the flip side, “We Want It” is quick off the mark, its pulsating, rapid-fire bass and buzzing, pitch-bending harmonies segueing effortlessly into a veritable maelstrom of clanking fury synonymous with the two artists’ signature styles of D&B floorfillers.
