Soul Ex Machina is pleased to present the first release of 2023 from label resident Afterlife. Afterlife is a Brno-based producer who is making a name for himself in the underground drum and bass scene with his unique style that blends elements of techstep, neurofunk, and old school subgenres. Afterlife was exposed to various genres of music from a young age, absorbing vast amounts of influences. At a certain point, he was particularly drawn to the rhythmic energy of drum & bass and started experimenting with producing his own music. After honing his skills and developing his unique sound, Afterlife began to gain recognition in the local drum & bass community, performing at local events and festivals and releasing his first music. "Fishscale EP" is his second appearance on the imprint, showcasing five tracks of his journey.
Fishscale - This track is a perfect example of Afterlife's ability to create dark, gritty yet melodic soundscapes that are both menacing and hypnotic. The driving bassline, sharp breaks and relentless percussion make it a perfect choice for the headz. In collaboration with CHCKMT, Afterlife delivers "Chrome Circle" - a hard-hitting neurofunk banger that is sure to get any dancefloor jumping. The pulsating bassline and intricate drum work showcase his production skills and attention to detail. With its nod to the old school, Computer Rock is the track that throwbacks to the early days of drum and bass. The breakbeat rhythms and heavy use of samples create a nostalgic vibe that is sure to please fans of the genre's early days. The fourth tune of "Fishscale EP" is Murky - as the name suggests, this track is a dark and brooding journey through a murky and ominous soundscape. The relentless, heavy bassline and eerie atmospherics aim to be a favorite among fans of the darker side of drum and bass. The EP closes with Above The Clouds. In contrast to heavier tracks, Above The Clouds is a dreamy, atmospheric journey through hitting breaks, heavy low end and lush soundscapes.
