Esteemed drum & bass imprint Ruff DNB presents In This Moment, the latest EP from Austrian producer Blue Frequency. Blue Frequency has made a name for himself on the scene since 2018, the bulk of his releases coming via Ruff DNB and DNB Database. With In This Moment, he showcases a mountainous take on drum & bass that's both emotive and packed with bass weight.
The title track ‘In This Moment’ is drum & bass at its most breathtaking. Teeming with vibrant melodies, scintillating build-ups, and exhilarating drops, Blue Frequency takes his listener on a euphoric journey, with ‘In This Moment’ conjuring images of packed-out festival tents, joyous listeners, and an all-round good time.
‘Show Me the Stars’ shoots for the highest emotional peaks with melodic vocal samples and sweeping pad arrangements; the track eventually unfurls into a soaring verse, as blissful melody riffs underpin breakneck drum programming.
The penultimate tune, ‘The Light,’ kicks off with stirring keyboard patterns before fluidly transitioning into a palette of hazy synths and metronomic rhythm lines.
‘Behind The Hill’ closes out In This Moment. Here, Blue Frequency blends together hair-raising melody lines that take flight over heady percussion, the latter giving ‘Behind The Hill’ the punch it needs to blow up the speakers. ‘Behind The Hill’ feels like a microcosm of the EP itself, marrying the uplifting sonics of the previous tunes with sound system pressure.
