Beast Music classifies itself as a “Fresh multi-genre independent record label based out of the South West” and in one of the countries `mecca for raving`, Bristol. Home of course to some of the biggest names in dance music history such as Roni Size, Dj TC, Massive Attack & Julio Bashmore to name a few.
Expectations are high coming from a place surrounded in such a huge amount of history for any new artist and collective hailing from these parts.
What Beast Music has done so far though in such a short period of time is encapsulate a variety of sounds from some amazing artists from around the world and solidify themselves as a mainstay of the city for years to come. The main motive behind the label was quite
simply a backlash to Foghorn DNB! For the Beast crew they wanted to focus on something totally different and bring a new energy to the dancefloors.
The people behind the label also see music as a perfect way of helping deal with mental health and the ethos here is deeply rooted in creating success for producers and enthusiasts alike involved in the label or simply just listening.
Support within the ranks of the industry so far has been phenomenal with the likes of Disciple Records, Born On Road, and Sika Studios playing a huge part in a helping hand along the way.
Beast Music like its pre-desessors is setting a standard for UK DNB and with some very exciting releases on the way there is alot to shout about.
“Concussion & Redmond- Ramped Up” (Featuring Mc GQ)
Concussion follows up the last release on Beast with this huge and meaty collab alongside friend Redmond and one of the most legendary MCs on the Circuit GQ.
Dan (Concussion) is the owner and founder of Beast and originally hails from the Mid Wales area.
He's been heavily involved in music for quite a while now, starting off his journey as a bass guitarist in his early teens it wasn't until 2005 his career took on a huge step up with events and festivals booking him consistently around the area where he regular cut his teeth to mammoth crowds at the likes of Glastonbury, Boomtown & NAS. To name a few.
Redmond on the other-hand, has his start as an advanced Drummer at a very young age until meeting up with Concussion in college before they became heavily involved in Drum & Bass.
His productions alongside Dan alone have been causing quite a stir, especially some of the naughty bootlegs put out by the artists in recent times that got them noticed and played by some of the top names in the industry.
And finally the man, Mc GQ. This guy needs no introduction at all (Unless you have been living under a rock?) and his inclusion on the release actually came around when Concussion attended the notorious Boomtown festival.
After attending Dan found an amazing clip on his camera of Dj Marky alongside GQ rinsing out the crowd in the only way he knows how and this was something they felt would be such a waste to not sample and turn into a forever lasting memory in a track.
The right channels were contacted and “Hey Presto” If you don't ask you don’t get. “Ramped Up” was born.
The track itself starts with the ultra recognisable voice of the man himself over a guitar synth and the 1-2 slap of percussion to carry it into more GQ and crowd noises galore.
A build so intense. You feel you are there in the rave. capturing that exact moment at Boomtown festival to bring you right there next to Dan filming the show.
The synths scream “PARTY” Throughout the track. Lots of changes and quick diversion techniques keep your interest before GQ ends the first drop echoing through the speakers. “Is Everyone Feeling Okay” ? You should be.
Ramped Up is Released everywhere on Beast Music 6th April 2023
