Conrad Subs - Real Dread EP - Dread Recordings / DPD031

Conrad Subs returns to Dread Recordings with seven cuts of hybrid jungle and drum and bass.

Embers opens the EP with a reese-heavy jungle track. Soulful vocals and shuffling breaks bring oldschool flavours, tastefully balancing sounds from the past, present, and future.

Conversely, Goliath is built using sounds drawn from contemporary drum and bass. Minimal drums, distorted FM basses and dissonant ambient pads mirror the arrangement of a jungle track, seamlessly blending the two genres.

Conrad Subs leans further into the drum and bass side of his productions with Liquid State. Rolling breaks and a fuzzy bassline make for a heavy DJ tool designed for serious blends.

Octavius continues the EP’s genre fusion with jump up sound design and junglistic funk. Harmonically rich pulsating, distorted basses interspersed with detuned wobbles perfectly match syncopated breaks and are sure to turn heads in the dance.

Optimus also straddles the boundary between two genres, but this time bridges the gap between jungle and techstep. Crisp, syncopated drums accompany alternating reeses and thunderous 808s.

Amen breaks come out in full force for Real Dread. Aptly named, this track has all the features of a classic jungle tune; big breaks, fat 808s, and ragga vocals. Throw in a few rave stabs, and you have a highly energetic clash-ready cut.

Closing out the EP with minimal stepper Spellbound, Conrad Subs blends dubbed-out vocals, hypnotic basslines, and tight drums for another seismic blend of jungle and drum and bass.
