Following on from the resounding success of their recent team-up “Holding On”, Austrian production duo Cranium and South East singer Sammie Hall have assembled an all-star cast of guests to provide four giddying new spins on the track.
Championed by the likes of Most Addictive and Data Transmission, the liquid original received rave reviews, with the latter publication hailing it as “wondrously uplifting”. The new remix package comes at a pivotal time for the two acts, with Vienna’s Cranium having proven their versatility with an array of darker releases last year and Brighton’s Sammie Hall having racked up hits on ProgRAM, Skankandbass and Macky Gee’s Down 2 Earth Musik.
First to step up to the plate is long-established Ukrainian producer NickBee, whose past allegiances with the likes of Noisia’s Invisible Recordings and neurofunk powerhouse Bad Taste qualify him as a veritable veteran of the scene. Opting for a characteristically intoxicating interpretation of “Holding On”, his rendition of the single finds brooding bass underscored by fractured chords, warped pads and flurries of white noise, perpetually in an ever-intriguing state of metamorphosis. Pulling no punches, meanwhile, Airglo’s take greets listeners with snarling synth work from the jump, with the LA talent and Play Me Records signee bringing together sparkling arpeggios and gravelly crescendos to make for stupendous results. International trio Sola – themselves frequent collaborators of Sammie Hall’s – inject the track with a newfound bite, with oscillating, old-school basslines snaking in and out of the mix, while Cranium conclude the EP, turning their hand to their own track on a distinctly grittier take recalling their heavier roots.
Holding On (The Remixes) hits Beatport and Spotify a fortnight early on 27 August, reaching a full range of digital streaming platforms on 10 September 2021.
