Straight Up Audio is back on the attack. A flurry of top shelf audio onslaughts have been welcomed by our ears in 2023 and the label is just not holding back with yet more fodder to get you in a twist.
Jinx is back with another solo EP and no prisoners are taken on this one.
A difference on this one is the active change up through the EP to bring focus to multiple sounds of the DNB spectrum. Jungle… Tick. Rollers… Tick. and also Jump-Up in its more classic form… Tick.
1/ “Shake It For Me”
Jinx lets rip with the claxon right away with this one so you think you can easily predict how it will go…
No, No you can't, a quick switch on the drop takes you into more classic territory with heavily processed horns and his take on the ever popular elephant bass sound.
Party vocals echo throughout this bad boy. and an ever present emphasis on the stuttering percussion leading it into yet another heavy for the dancefloor drop.
2/ “Lets Dance”
Big echoes and claps. Reggae vocals.
That can only mean one thing…. LETS DANCE. This one takes aim at the classic Jump Up sound that was played heavily in Birmingham in the early 00s.
High quality percussion and bass stabs are processed to perfection in this one, making you do exactly what it says on the tin.
3/ “Lizard Style”
No this isn't a track about the Royal family.
It's one for the Junglists in its purest form. Or maybe the royal family are lizard junglists. Who knows. I cannot see for a second they would not be brocking out to this one come rave day.
Phasing synths bring this one right up to date with the current sound but still throughout keeps its rooted deeply planted in the sound and what you would want to hear right from the Jinx lab.
4/ “Pump Up The Bass”
We finish off the EP in style.
Echoing Violins which are pretty non existent in modern Drum & Bass bring an ever fresh tone to the track which is lead by the Souliest of soul vox samples.
Want a 180 on that. No problem we drop right back into the jungle with yet another vocal sample that just seamlessly leads in from the Soul and epic intro into a splendid party piece just for the rizzla and bud crew.
