After a brief period of dormancy, coveted drum and bass label Deception Recordings is back with

another drop of epic proportions, “Control Tower”/“Exhibit A”, courtesy of head honcho Manifest.

Following on from last year’s well-received team-ups “Daybreak” and “Surge” with Dutty Audio boss BTK and Renegade Hardware affiliate Cold Fusion, the new single finds the South London beatmaker at the reins once again, flexing his musical muscle over the course of two pulverising steppers.

Named after a local Jamaican business in the celebrated DJ/producer’s hometown of Brixton, opening gambit “Control Tower” is a boisterous, jungle-infused affair, its introductory dub sirens seeping through the mix atop a bed of punchy drumwork. Snapping into hard-hitting crescendos centred around throaty basslines, frantic breakbeats and ricocheting spoken-word samples, it’s a characteristically hefty affair, primed for deployment in a soundclash.

“Exhibit A”, on the other hand, gets darker, greeting listeners with industrial drones and disquieting pitched-down vocals before entering a minimal, rhythmic stupor. A prime example of the newfound capabilities afforded to the seasoned producer as a result of his upgraded studio setup, it’s a technical triumph, with an array of razor-sharp basslines slicing through at every turn. Serious business.

“Control Tower” / “Exhibit A” hits Beatport and Spotify on 19 July, reaching a full range of stores the following fortnight on 2 August 2021.
