The latest venture on revered drum and bass label Cause4Concern comes courtesy of Portuguese star in the making Molecular, who offers up two pulverising pieces in the form of “Space Train” and the Objectiv team-up “The Foundation”.
Establishing a reputation for his no-holds-barred musical output since emerging on the scene in 2016, the Porto-based youngster has demonstrated a penchant for all things dark and dingy, carving out a niche for himself as the architect of a vast catalogue of tenebrous steppers on renowned labels such as Sofa Sound & Skankandbass.
True to form, his cavernous atmospherics are back in full force over the course of this new two-tracker. Commencing with a stupefying, eerie synth motif and furnished with an array of swirling effects, “Space Train” soon descends into chaos, with coarse, modulated stabs skipping around a bed of razor-sharp beats and slapping basslines.
“The Foundation” is a similarly dank creation calling on the help of emergent Bristolian all-rounder Objectiv, who has recently enjoyed a meteoric rise as both a soloist on labels like Dispatch and Flexout. This fresh international collaboration finds the duo utilising tense, ambient sweeps, which soon give way to a pounding pairing of popping percussion and igneous basslines with thrilling results.
“Space Train” lands 29th March exclusively to Beatport and Spotify, with a full release to follow on 12 April.
