#LockdownRecordings are a Bristol based label who’ve been grafting to build a roster which stands up against those imprints who were established in the earlier days. Promoting the deeper side of the dance music spectrum, they’ve always adhered to the same paradigm; that’s to offer only forward-thinking, technical and rolling vibes for the heads.
#Lockdown once again build on their reputation for breaking new talent, this time bringing you the debut EP on the label from #RedSky, a brand-new project from Birmingham based regular, Zerosum and Mark Stevenson. #RedSky share an appreciation for music that’s tense and paranoid, characterised by a futuristic sensibility but with human soul, musically bringing 90’s techstep up to date, with influences across drum n bass, sound track, alternative and electronica.
The EP opens with title track ‘#Colony’, arpeggiated synths and pads setting the tone for the EP, a cold futuristic vibe that switches into tight programmed rolling breaks and bass. Next up ‘#KeepLying’ really takes you by surprise and is a perfect example of the unique sound of this new outfit. Vocal textures, hats and break edits build rhythmically in the intro, then drop hard into raw bass stabs, half time drums and strings. ‘#MercuryRising’ is the third cut on the EP and sees #BarryGration step in on guitar, providing layers of ambience and effects in the intro before pulsing out in another halftime flex which builds slowly with intricate layers of synth stabs and jungle drum breaks. ‘#StolenHours’ closes out the EP, with atmospheric plucked guitar samples creating an almost Balearic vibe that switches nicely into tight stepping drums, deep bass and tuned percussion hits.
#RedSky have certainly got people’s attention with this new EP and there’s plenty more from the duo in the pipeline…Keep it Locked!
