IN:DEEP delivers six tracks of deep and funky Drum & Bass with the EMITTER EP, the latest body of work from TENCHU that follows in his long history of collaboration with the label. EMITTER is influenced by TENCHU’s experience producing in a wide range of musical styles for other projects and with other musicians, and samples tonalities from a multifaceted array of sources including his much beloved Moog Sub37 synthesizer. TENCHU ties these disparate sounds together with a series of slick breakbeat backbones across the span of the EMITTER EP, merging them with the exacting precision wrought from his 20 years of service to Drum & Bass, the genre wherein he makes his artistic home.
Opened by the whistling synth lead of its title track, the EMITTER EP moves effortlessly from this whimsical outset into the dusky atmosphere of “Sharkbites”, which features a bassline enhanced by rows of razor sharp harmonic teeth. From here, “Spatial Anomaly” provides an energetic percussive prelude to the undulating low end of “Get Grimey”, which is itself followed by a return to funky form from the EP’s last two tracks “Sequels” and “Tempi Drum” as the EP comes full circle to close.
With his EMITTER EP, TENCHU displays his devotion to the deeper side of Drum & Bass whilst probing the boundaries of those depths with sonics that bring a level of levity to their weighty basslines. In doing so, his sounds find a welcome home on IN:DEEP as the label once again finds much in common with the auditory philosophy of the Austrian artist.
