Zoner - Soul Searching E.P - Natty Dub Recordings / NATTY074

Natty Dub brings a new recruit to the team in the form of Zoner. An artist known for his diverse releases on hard hitting labels Subliminal, Soul Deep, Dub Damage, Headsbass and GZ Audio not forgetting the label of the moment One More Thing.

You’re in for a rough ride with ‘Body’ and its onslaught of crushed breakbeats and mind bending synth keys which in turn introduce what some may call the drop. For others, this one is much more of a journey which sets the tone for the full EP. ‘Conscious’ takes influence from the hard step era of days gone by with wicked drum programming and an abundance of pads. What’s brilliant about this little gem is all the additional elements that slide in and out, playing full reference to the title of the EP. Step deep inside your mind for this one.

Breaking into vaults with ‘Inside Job’ without all the hassle of wearing a balaclava and a matching black outfit unless that’s your thing of course. A tune so fitting for modern driving games it’s a wonder Microsoft hasn’t hit us up already.. If you’re sitting on the motorway, blast this one through your speakers whilst sticking to the 70mph limit of course. We rollin’.

Title track vibes a run with ‘Soul Searching’ and as predicted, this one has summer 2023 ALL OVER IT! If you have been lucky enough to attend one this year whilst the sun has been shining, no doubt someone has dropped this shining example of feel good drum and bass. Bryan G’s been on the phone for months for this bad boy!

‘Tougher Than This’ isn’t trying to go down the lines of “my Dad’s harder than your Dad” or anything like that but what it is showcasing is that upfront drum and bass can be more than just one thing. Riding some choice Rodigan samples, it’s a glorious blend of liquid meets jump up and what a fine way to go about it too. One for the spliff heads, one for the front row gang. Simple.

Carlos EG sneaks in the studio for a collaboration on ‘Bring It Back’. A great wrap up to the EP and certainly not one to miss out when checking this release. Everything above has been wrapped into one tidy package here; rolling breaks, rumbling subs, silky vocal stabs and much more. It’s what you wanted without even asking for it.
