With the end of the festival season drawing ever closer and the switch from sunny open fields to dark sweaty clubs peaking over the horizon, #InReachRecords is serving up another plateful of appropriately deep drum & bass, perfectly suited to the latter. #IRR004 comes courtesy of two very exciting emerging talents: #SamBinary and #Deviant. Sam has been tearing up dance floors across Bristol for some time now with his own brand of dark jungle and moody drum & bass, which has seen recent releases on labels such as Alex Eveson's imprint Western Lore and the always consistent #AddictiveBehaviourRecordings. #Deviant is likely to be a less familiar name to most; his debut EP landed in July 2019 courtesy of #TheChikaraProject and he's wasted no time in following it up with the ear-catching production on display here.
First up we have '#BleepWithOneEyeOpen' and there are certainly no illusions of softer sounds on show here. Setting off with a weighty stepping drum break, backed by the titular bleeps, the track develops organically from the deep bass of the initial drop to the growling mids that lead to the breakdown. After the brief lull, the two prominent elements of the drop return to battle it out for pride of place at the forefront of the mix.
The darker vibes continue as we move on to: '#Traverse'. The short intro comprises a combination of eerie pads and tones supporting the stripped back drums, which gain some momentum when the feint high hats are introduced by the enigmatic vocal sample that precludes the drop. Cue the entry of another dark flexing bass line, which combines with the now running drum break to set a real tempo to the track that's certain to get feet moving in the dance.
Lastly we have '#AnotherPlace', which projects a distinctive vibe from the outset through some exceedingly deep liquid tones. These are soon followed by the gentle and gradual introduction of the drum break, culminating in a soft vocal sample that announces the crisp free-flowing drop. However, there's no time to get too comfortable; as you find yourself quickly settling in, the track switches from smooth rolling bass to rough electronic stabs, creating a tantalising juxtaposition between the two halves of the drop.
Once again, we're absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to share top quality music from artists that we are genuinely excited about here at #InReachRecords. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
